My memory being what it is I was struggling to find the right answer
A roman cats TUG was fighting an TUG to the front and was contactec on the flank ( melee phase ) by a hoplite TUG.
MMM1
CCC1H1
C2H2
H3
So what happened if that Cat C1 died gloriously fighting M1 ( mounted not US carabine ) .
So now the problem was how would H1 fight as being 4 CM wide it contacted C1 ( 3 CM deep ) on the flank and C2
At the moment of contact it was a fair flank fight but at moment of resolution would it be frontal as part of the H1 base was to the front of C2 or considered flank as it whould be simultaneous ?
If C2 was attacked by H2 who was clearly on the flank what file support could H1 give ? with a +2 to the flank or considered frontal ?
Whether you are fighting to front or flank is only determined by:
1) whether it was a flank charge or a frontal charge (if the contact was due to a charge).
2) If the base was contacted on the flank (If the contact was engaging in melee when already in contact as per 9.4 M on page 132).
So if H1 contacted C2 as part of a flank charge then C2 is contacted in the flank and stays that way unless C2 turns to face using an MF2 move.
Hope that is clear and I have understood your diagram correctly.
Richard
