When making a break off move from combat can a UG interpenetrate foot skirmishers?
Break-off happens during the fighting phase
It is a prompted move so IMO yes you may move through your own SK but only if you pass through completely.
An interesting point will be "displacing" the SUG to make room for the TUG as the rule specifies a SUG may be displaced to the back of a TUG ( to make room)
Richard's or Nik's opinion might be requested

Yes - page 109 covers how it happens and the restrictions.
Related - depending on how the troops are positioned it
may be possible to use the up to 1 BW SUG displacement (assuming TUG breaking off) to avoid the need to pass through friends (pages 80 and 114); but the 1 BW is going to be the main restriction here I expect.
oops - looks like I dudded my opponent.
And then the elephants charged into the 'pinned' mounted.
Oops :P
I'm sure they'll get their revenge ;D

It is as I explained BUT what about 3.2 "however, TUGs may displace SUGs theybare passing trough back to behind them to make enough room.
How do you resolve this as there is no one BW limit to that and as the TUG goes backwards, touches the SUG with it's rear bases it would be like pushing the SUG if it cannot complete the move through it ..
Not sure what there is to "resolve" here. Just play it as it is written surely?

OK so My cavalry breaks off. It goes backwards and hits my SK unit that it cannot go through as the cavalry does not have enough movement left they can just enter it !
I hope this is a clear picture of the situation
Now if i read the rule, the SK unit may be put to the REAR of the moving TUG as to make space for it ...but it is already to the back of the moving TUG
So may my cavalry PUSH BACK the SUG as it is allowed by the rule ( put the SUG to the back of the TUG will be equivalent of pushing it back )
It is pretty simple
Yes, in effect in this case the SuG is being pushed back - as opposed to other directions which could occur with other passing through circumstances.
Seems pretty simple to me :D

It is not mentally ergonomic in that it appears if the SUG is displaced to behind the TUG, then the TUG did not pass through the SUG, which means the displacement couldn't happen.
If your mind works that way then in this case, but not all, that will be true ;D

But page 114 (9.3 K) allows SuGs to be displaced with any move. So this is a separate case from the "Passing through Friends" on page 109.
Richard
Or can be done with both mechanisms ;D
All correct. Makes for a simple outcome in that case ... and a logical one if you think about the troops.
