Translation
The lists, the lists, the lists etc etc
;D
So what do we have :
5 UK players
8 french players
7 belgian or assimilated players
Simon Hall : Nikephorian Byzantines 1030
Adrian Pitfield : Normans 1023
Roger Pitfield : Tuareg 950
Peter Entwistle : Later Eastern Roman 461
Ray Duggins : Beja 846
Gilles Wilgosz : Early Fatimid Egyptian 1000
Anthony Leroy ; Vikings in Ireland
Bruno Masson : Vikings in Ireland
Denis Mercier : Bedouin Dynasties 950
Frédéric Maillard : Nikephorian Byzantines 1000
Frédéric Dufour : Great seljuk Empire 1090
Olivier Joucla : First Bulgarian Empire 804
Pierre-Alexandre Joucla : Sassanid Persian 550
Luc Joosten : Andalusian 970
Jean-Luc Van Loo : Ghaznavid 1050
Fabien Mulcey : Later Easter Roman 476
Patrick Pauwels : Carolus Magnus Carolingian 800
Serge Adeline : First Bulgarian Empire 803
Thomas Maistriaux : Arab Conquest 650
Jacques Wilputte : Nikephorian Byzantines or Bavarian with Avar allies : you may choose my army before the tournament if you react quickly enough . Everyone knows what my favourite is 8)
So 20 players .
I hope to have the pairs of player this evening so you will know who you meet b( I still have to choose how I will do it but basically there are 3 groups and people in one group will ( should ) not meet each other on the first day so not based on points )
More news latter .
Which Byzantines would you take? What date?
The first round was generated by a computer program with 3 different pools so it is completely random except that UK does not meet UK and so on. It will be so on the first day .
Roger Pietfield vs Thomas Maistraux
Jean-Luc Van Loo vs Olivier Joucla
Frédéric Maillard vs Patrick Pauwels
Gilles Wielgosz vs Peter Erstwistle
Ray Duggins vs Serge Adeline
Denis Mercier vs Jacques Wilputte
Bruno Masso vs Luc Joosten
Anthony Leroy vs Pitfield Adrian
Simon Hall vs Frédéric Dufour
Fabien Mulcey vs Pierre-Alexandre Joucla
My favourite Nikephorian Byzantines are around year 1000 and completely different from the 2 other Nike armies
6 Katafraktoi
6 Tagmata
6 Normans
4 Thematic
8 skutatoi ( old version )
8 armenian mercenaries
6 FA varanguians guards
1 fortified camp
The smallest army of the tournament
Simple a can easely win or loose ...
Merci grand chef ;)
Denis
Denis : Nike or Bavarians ?
Simon Hall suggest the bavarians with avar ally for more different army lists ...
I will toss a coin for you
Heads: Eastern Girly Boys
Tails: Real Men

I'd concur with Si on this - variety of lists is a good thing.
Agreed variety is part of the spices of the game, participants are welcome to voluntarily discuss with organiser beforehand . ;)
I proposed : Later eastern Romans, Seldjuk Turks, and Vikings ( my usual sparring partner type training stuff ) as it happened my friends were kind enough to supply me with their prototype lists, Romans for Fabien, Seldjuks for Fred .... only Vikings remains , so
Ragnar'sons will be there post 900 CE ...
by the way, do you join in the Charleroi to Waterloo trip ? 8)
still waiting with my coin
toss the coin
By the way, my Nike army is different from the 2 others, night and day .
But for now votes are even ( I got emails ) so perhaps a coin on saturday
Drama!! Excitement!!

1/2/3 : Nike, 4/5/6 : Bavarians ;D
Denis
already NIKE's in the comp, take Bavarians..
i vote for diversity
Ok toss the die saturday morning ...and Denis will do it ;D
Good decision. I was going to use my hooky coin.
Final practise last night 15-4 vs Northern Song, now to see how they perform after a forced march in to the lands of the Belgae :D ;)
Sam's Northern Song don't seem to like Romans ...
was it a song of pain and suffering?
All going ok for both parties slow grind it out melees, casual comment was no skulls yet, the Sam rolled G Skand I replied with Y Sk, G Sk, G Sk & G Sk and a gap in the line opened up, then his line started to roll up

It's a game of skill at the end of the day
When I played him the other week (using Imperial Romans) his command cards were a bit rubbish but more than made up for by his combat dice - I got a 15-6 but could easily have lost it heavily as it was 0-6 to Sam at one point ... :P
Initially it was 2-0 to sam, after 2 skirmishing cav unit broke
Oi. You two. Stop hijacking the IWC thread. 8)
Its more interesting than Jacques dithering over which army to use ;D

Fair point
do not tell him that !
but for those that come :
temperatures bellow zero but good thing is that it should not snow..(perhaps a bit on friday morning so no impact)
Uninteresting , the bavarian crushed the carolus magnus carolingian but not very interesting
Ray you owe me a beer, Jilu also for being traitors to a good cause
Waiting to board Eurostar at London St. Pancras, have sent Ray on ahead to scout terrain 🤣😂
On train pulling into to Brussels. Loads of drunk Brits and I'm sober 😱
Jez, you ill😜 or something 🤣😂
Saving myself 8) 8)
yes you did well ...
now you tasted more unnamable beers
Good luck guys. Hope it goes well.
Merci à tous les organisateurs et organisatrice pour ce très sympathique tournoi de Ixelles. Merci à Jacques pour sa patience, à mes quatre partenaires de jeu pour les bons moments passés, ainsi qu'à Simon pour les explications de texte.
Denis
Pauwels, Patrick 60 points

Duggins, Ray 31 points
Mastriaux, Thomas 30 points
Pitfield Adrian 30 points
Van Loo jean-Luc 29 points

So Denis Mercier managed to his big surprise not to be the last player.
Frédéric Maillard , for whom it was his very first tournament got 10th
And Patrick Pauwels, with his charlemagnes carolingian managed to beat Simon's Nikephorians in about 2 1/4 hours and so won the tournament
So next year about the same WE in 2020, biblical + classical till 110 BCE + ancient brittish, scot irish and second servile war . Paint you miniatures ( you wagon also if you whish)
So the Ghaznavid Jacques was worried about finished 16th ... ;D

The Ghaznavid met slippery players who avoided melee and made him run except for the Normans who boldly charged forwards and destroyed a group of nellies before loosing the whole army
Top Englishman Pete Entwhistle. Well done Pete. Better invade Belgium next year by the looks of it. :o
