I see that some lists have the option to get horse archers as TUG and SUG:
Horse archers (TUG) Formed Flexible uprotected etc
Horse archers (SUG) Skirmisher uprotected etc
all things equal tugs are quite more expensive, but I fail to see a strong advantage in tugs here... they can be effective in melee if loose formation, but they're still unprotected and badly equipped for melee.
I kinda understand how to use Horse archers sugs, but not horse archers tugs... how do you use them? What are the tactics where their tug feature is worth its point cost?
When you use them as sug formation 3 ranks deep, they are less vulnerable when shot at from over 1 MU.
If the ennemy has no shooters, use the Tug formation, you will only need a 2 rank deep formation.
These units are effective to hold a refused flank, to do flank marches, to try to outflank or to slow the enemy down.
