Title: rulebook digital version
Post by: aleph on May 20, 2022, 11:02:55 AM
hi,

i recently started playing meg with a friend, and we're enjoying it quite much. However I have a small issue: with other games I'm used to work on lists, game situations and rules when I'm not at home, and I use some sort of digital version of the rulebook (usually a pdf file) to check rules and stuff. With MEG I'm missing this, and it is quite annoying having to wait to be home to check the paper rulebook...

It is there any plan to release a PDF or other digital version of MEG compendium? The paper book is great but I really need a digital version (not necessarily for free, I would be ready to pay for it if).

As a side not: making the rules available online for free would certainly help with diffusing and promoting the game, and I'm pretty sure this would also benefit sales (of miniatures and rulebooks). Most of the miniature games I play have a free rulebook available online so people can try the game without having to commit to paying the book (or borrowing).

Thank you!

I desperately need a pdf version of the rules too. Always learn new rules with buying them printed, flipping through the book and then intensify the learning by reading each chapter carefully on my tablet wherever I go, not using the printed version simply to avoid ruining the copy.

Any chance it will be offered as pdf (even a reduced rules only version) in the foreseeable future?

"I'm pretty sure this would also benefit sales (of miniatures and rulebooks)."

The second point is arguable.

The first point is more relevant for games systems with their own proprietary miniatures.

Makes more sense from a PSC point of view  :)

I have bought REG and Divisions of Steel , all on PDF

All based on CCC

All descendant from MEG

It's all on my computer except MEG but I would be very very happy to have a pdf version that could be modified and downloaded when modified

So is there really a problem ?

This subject does not seem to raise interest from the gods of the rules.

I would just like to point out that when travelling a digital version would be a plus and much more easy to use as the book adds weight and weight is an issue in a plane or in a train ...much less if travelling by car .

So why does it seem so difficult to have a digital version ?

I seriously plan to travel without the rules or to scan the whole book

This is a matter for PSC and Simon.  Simon has enough on his plate at the moment.  Quite simply, it isn't going to happen in the short term.

I did contact them directly thanks for pointing that out

Short term : it is just a question of making it available it can be done in a day or so

Simon is most definitely NOT PSC, just as Warwick Kinrade (who's rules they also publish and sell) is also not PSC.  Simon has a business arrangement with PSC regarding the sale / distribution of MeG related goods but PSC is PSC.  It's a bit like saying that the guy that supplies the buns to Burger King is Burger King, clearly he's not.

Ok if you want to ... just know that Simon AND PSC are very positive regarding a digital version. So now can we stop beickering about the huge involvement and cooperation between Simon and PSC who work together on MEG and other projects !

The question is : when do we get a digital version, such a simple thing to do

Turns out it isn't quite as straight forward as you might expect, plus some other factors. I'm sure Simon will expand on this at some point.

There is a difference between starting digital and switching from analogue to digital.

Sort of this - although we're not quite talking about pen and paper documents thankfully  ;D

Those with good memories may recall some of the issues Simon had with files disappearing with somebody - that has a knock on effect it turns out  :(

Of course, should the players wish to pay for the volunteer time on MeG projects such as this I'm sure we could come up with an acceptable (to the volunteers) hourly rate ...  8)  ;D
