Title: Pacto Charges
Post by: Brucka on March 26, 2022, 06:16:34 AM
I have 3 TUGS adjacent to each other. The center and left unit is an average loose Egyptian Javelin, the right unit is a devastating charge Gasgan  mercenary. The center unit is engaged with a Hittite Chariot (2 bases). In the charge phase can the Gasgan charge the Hittite chariot (frontally as did not start on flank),by turning 90 or so degrees? They do start the turn in corner to corner contact and I am using the other javelin as support . Just something that has not come up for me before. Thanks for the help.

No, you cannot charge if you are in contact with the unit you wish to charge.  A UG can fight with supports on both sides.  your only alternative is to move away and then charge in the following turn.

Or use the provisions of section M on page 132.

Or use the provisions of section M on page 132.

These provisions don't apply if the  UG is already fighting the UG (which in Pacto it would be as a supporting file).

Wait, those rules don't apply if a UG has a file in support of another file that is in melee combat? Are you sure? That makes the use case of those rules really small. UGs in support don't count as engaged as far as I am aware, I would think that would mean they don't count as "in combat" either.

Thank you. A proper reading of page 132 was really helpful.

Supporting files are "engaged" but not "fighting" as per the clarification added in the last set of clarries:

"•   WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF "FIGHTING"? Fighting = a file rolling combat dice. NB as supporting files do not roll dice themselves, but add dice to the fighting file this means that supporting files are "engaged" but not "fighting"; this can be important in some situations such as those detailed on page 132 section M."
