Title: Combined TuGs
Post by: Dirkhrod on March 12, 2022, 08:52:15 PM
Hi Guys,

I played today against a friend using a Middle Anglo-Saxon list, and he used the combined TuGs option, using Hird (superior), Select Fyrd (average) and Great Fyrd (poor). He asked whether he could place his Hird bases in the second rank, with the fyrd in the first and I got quite annoyed and admonished him for trying to exploit the rule ignoring the spirit of historical accuracy, but he retorted that if it's not mentioned in the rules, it is his right, which is true. So I promised to ask, since there is no compulsory order mentioned in the rule.

Is there a compulsory order in which the bases should be placed, or can he mix & match any way he wants in the unit ?

Many Thanks,
Dan

If the list* does not specify then a player can arrange the bases as they like.

* restrictions on how a unit can be deployed are included in the lists and not the rulebook.

Yes it is perfectly permissible to put the superiors in the 2nd rank. Or indeed the poor!

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Not what I wanted to hear, but the rules are the rules.

Not sure why anyone would want to thought.  A false idea to protect them from shooting?

Personally i would add to the list an order for those and Aztecs etc.  The best should be at the front.
