Title: M5 - Full Ahead with Shift
Post by: Dirkhrod on December 12, 2021, 07:32:50 AM
Hi guys, I have a question.

When performing an M5, it says Max distance and then shift 1BW to either side at the end of the move, must stay >= 4 BW from enemy TuGs.

From this, and also from the "Full Ahead" in the title of the move, I have interpreted that in order to perform this, I am forced to always move the maximum distance. So if I do it with Loose Cav, I need to go the full 5 BW and then shift 1 BW. I am not allowed to only move 3 or 4 BW and then shift 1. This of course makes it very hard to perform the move, since it would force me to go with 4 BW of enemy TuGs, which means the move becomes impossible.

HOWEVER, in https://mortem-et-gloriam.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2161.msg15816#msg15816 (https://mortem-et-gloriam.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=2161.msg15816#msg15816), I have noticed nik stating: They'd be wrong then I'm afraid. I'm wondering how they have come to the conclusion that a second move of a double move cannot go to 4BW away from an enemy TuG - neither of the moves in a double move needs to be the full theoretical move distance (no movement phase move of any sort needs to be). Knowing why what their logic is would help with any explanation that may be needed.

So from this I interpret that I can actually move less than the full distance and perform the shift.

Can you please clarify how it should be interpreted ?

Many Thanks,
Dan

Basically I had not remembered the requirements of M5 when I wrote that; M5 clearly does require maximum move.

Note also that per page 161 a move slowed due to shooting (or shield cover) cannot be an M5 move unless you prompt through fire to the full distance.

Thanks Nik !

Not what I was hoping for, but alas, the rules are the rules :)
