Hi guys,
I have a question that arose during our game yesterday:
A block of 3 foot units 2 files wide is charging 3 units of archers which shoot at them (also 2 wide), the distance being 3 BW. So basically each file is shooting at the one in front of it and the end results are different. Unit 1 of the charging block got slowed by 1 BW, unit 2 by 2 BW and unit 3 not at all.
Am I supposed to prompt through fire only once for the whole block or for each unit ?
If I cannot prompt through fire (no cards), is unit 3 still able to charge, while units 1 and 2 are left behind or is the whole block slowed by 2, since it can only move to the speed of the slowest unit ?
Thanks,
Dan
This is basically covered on page 161 of the rules.
If you have paid for a block charge you prompt through fire as if it was one unit. If you cannot prompt through fire the block moves at the speed of the slowest UG in the block - so in your example the block would move 1 BW as one of the units is slowed by 2 BW.
Hi Nik,
Thanks a lot for your prompt response. It's what I thought as well (and how we played it), but needed to check.
Also, one other question now:
Do I calculate the slowing effects of fire based on the width of each unit compared to the damage it suffers (in this case 1 hit vs 2 files, 2 vs 2 and 0 vs 2), or the width of the entire block (in this case, 3 hits vs 6 files of width) ? I assume it is the first, but I am sure I will be asked the question, so better to be prepared.
Thanks,
Dan
It is the width of the UG used to calculate slowing effects.
