Title: applying the devastating charge bonus
Post by: Sillyflower on October 22, 2021, 03:15:16 PM
Can you get it if you are standing still, as opposed to actually charging of c/charging.

I'm thinking really of the scenario of cav charging inf who have the DC trait. Can the inf stand to receive and still get the bonus for their unused charging skill, or do they have to c/charge to get it, and then the cav get +1 for inf not standing to receive?

Tx for any help

In this case the infantry would both qualify as standing to receive AND get their devastating charger bonus, although I understand how that may seem a bit unintuitive.

In the QRS, a footnote defines standing to receive as not having charged, countercharged, or intercepted. The infantry didn't charge, so they count as standing to receive. The charge combat claims all apply regardless if one or both sides have charged.

The rationale for items like DC is that even though you stand to receive, many units would enter combat with a brief charge at the end. Think of it as the difference between charging over a long distance to close with the enemy, losing cohesion in the process that the mounted can exploit, vs. charging at the last minute when the charging mounted troops are nearly upon you.
