In a recent game I ran into a unit of expendables, but I'm still confused as to how they affect army breakpoints. Since expendables are TuGs (I assume always? I don't have any armies with them) and based on the literal rules I concluded that:
- When on table, they count toward the army size like other TuGs.
- If removed (from being in contact with enemy at the end of a turn), they then neither count towards the army size (which could indirectly break the army) but do not count as a lost TuG.
- If routed/destroyed, they count towards the army size, but also as a lost TuG.
I perused some army lists, and units of expendables tend to be poor, even combat shy sometimes, and 2-3 UGs in size, so relatively easy to break but a good unit in a single round of charge/melee combat. I concluded that it would take someone much cleverer than I to run them without simply handing a TuG on a platter to my opponent.
Is that a fair analysis?
Expendable TuGs do not count to the army break point total. They have their own lines in the army builder, so do not affect the TuG break point.
Broken or destroyed expendable TuGs do not count towards the army break point or scoring in competitions.
An Expendable that is removed because it is still in combat at the end of turn does not cause KAB tests (page 205).
I must admit I cannot find where it says this in the rules - I am wondering if it was lost in the Compendium Edition. Another entry for the clarifications I would suggest.
So if my army jhas 10 TuGs and an Expendable TuG. It has an army break point of 5.
If I then lose 4 TuGs and the Expendable TuG, my army has not broken.

Well... that makes a lot more sense! Thanks for clearing that up - and an official clarry would be good.
