Title: [RESULTS] ChillCon MMXXI, Canberra, Australia
Post by: Dru on July 08, 2021, 06:38:40 AM
Tournament Organiser (TO) Report for ChillCon MMXXI

The 2 day, 4 game, 12-player event was held on 26-27 June 2021 in Canberra, Australia during our winter (thus "ChillCon").

Lists could be from any available Mortem et Gloriam lists (ie: open comp) and points available were up to 10,021.

Thanks to the "ChillCon" organisers for letting me run a MEG tournament.

We had one player drop before the event due to COVID lockdown in his home area and another who had to leave after day 1 for the same reasons. Fortunately, in both cases we were able to acquire local players to fill the slots so there were no byes and the event was full.

Awards:
Trophies and medallions were provided for various categories. I sponsored the event with a curved sword for the event Champion while Olympian games did a spectacular job designing the trophies.
-   Sword for CHAMPION (1st)
-   Trophies for 1-3
-   Medallion for Best Painted
-   Medallions for Best Placed in Period
-   Medallion for most own generals lost ("Publius Quinctilius Varus" award)
-   Medallion for most enemy generals killed ("Alexander the Great" award)
-   Wooden Spoon for Last Placed

Prizes:
Thanks to our wonderful sponsors everyone walked away with much more in prize value than their entry fees.

Every player received a free set of tufts (120-140 tufts each) from Leadbear Tufts as well as a packet of Forged in Battle infantry (24 figures per pack). In addition every player got to pick from the prize pool for additional prizes such as Plastic Soldier Company army boxes, a 6'x4' battle mat, etc.

Please support those that support our hobby events! Here are our wonderful sponsors:
-   Olympian Games
-   Forged in Battle
-   Plastic Solider Company & Lurkio
-   Cigar Box Battle
-   Leadbear Tufts
-   War and Peace Games
-   Mick's Metal Models
-   Baueda Wargames
-   Dru Moore

We also had 2 new players attend their first ever Mortem et Gloriam tournament. Along with the prizes/awards they both also received a Mortem et Gloriam mug to celebrate their first event.

TO WRAP UP:

Thanks everyone who attended and especially those who helped carry/lift items for me.

Congrats to the various prize winners.

Again, MASSIVE thanks to our amazing and generous sponsors. Please do support the companies that support our events.

Thanks also to those who jumped in to keep us from having any bye games, when we lost people before and during the event due to COVID.

Only 50% of the games resulted in a win (a 15 result). Rust from lack of games during the pandemic would have contributed and there was observed some very slow play on some tables. However, only 2 players (1 of whom was in their first event) had zero 15-result games in their 4 rounds.  Large foot armies benefit from movement trays (I couldn't run my German horde without them!) and players are encouraged to consider those for the future.

Turns out I have a herniated disc and 3 other broad bulging discs, all in my Lumbar, so I really should not have attended, even with the painkillers. As TO however, I felt the show must go on! Apologies if I was cranky at any point – it was all a bit of a pain haze to be honest and I've spent days in bed since recovering. I had some really fun and interesting games despite it all and I hope all the players had a great time and felt the event was well organised and would attend again (especially our 2 new players!).

Attached are some game photos and photos of trophies and such. I'll add more as I download them.

Cheers,
Dru

Hi,
Thx for the report and army lists.
I did notice most army lists exceed the 10,000 pts, some by up to 20 points.
So I wonder is there a rule for the max excess of points and if so is this a general rule or
a local (Australian) one ?

Cheers and Happy gaming !

Dru (the TO) wanted to play with our minds and so made the points 10, 021 for this tournament😊 Normally we use 10k.
