Title: Deployment when out scouted question
Post by: Ludwig on April 15, 2021, 05:20:03 AM
My army consists of 15 units
I am out scouted by 40% as such I deploy 6 units
My opponent deploys 1/3 of his units
I deploy 5 units
My opponent deploys another 1/3 of his total units
I deploy my remaining 4 units
My opponent deploys the final 1/3 of his army
Is this the correct procedure??
Thanks

Not quite correct.

If you are outscouted you deploy the required %age of your army - in this case 6 UGs.

The you both place any ambushes/flank marches.

The the outscouting player deploys the same %age of their army as the outscouted player deployed - in this case 40%.

Then the players alternate in deploying 1/3 of their army.

You can find the sequence on page 61 of the Compendium and on the Pre-Battle System QRS.

If you are outscouted by 40%.

You deploy 40% of your 15.
Your opponent deploys 40% of however many UGs they have (rounding up)
You deploy 1/3 of 15.
They deploy 1//3 of however many UGs they have (rounding up)
You deploy the remaining 4 UGs.
They deploy their remaining UGs.

Erm, exactly the same process ...

If you are outscouted you deploy the required %age of your army - in this case 10%.

The you both place any ambushes/flank marches.

Then the outscouting player deploys the same %age of their army as the outscouted player deployed - in this case 10%.

Then the players alternate in deploying 1/3 of their army.

You can find the sequence on page 61 of the Compendium and on the Pre-Battle System QRS.

So 40% gives you : 40%,(do ambushes etc), 1/3, the rest.

10% gives you: 10%, (do ambushes etc), 1/3, 1/3, the rest.

0% gives you: (do ambushes etc), 1/3, 1/3, 1/3

So if you outscout the enemy by a large margin, he gets to see more of your army before deciding whether to ambush or flank march than if you only outscout him a little?

No, you are missing a step in the sequence.

Ambushes and flank marches are decided after the outscouted player has placed the required %age but before the outscouting player has placed any troops on the table.

So in the 40% example it would go: 40% (outscouted player), do ambushes/flank marches, 40% (outscouting player), then 1/3rds alternately.

And just to go to the point , the 1/3 you place is the 1/3 as planified if the army was full strenght

So 16 UG is
6/6/4

If you deployed 10 UGs due to outscouting , no ambushes, your next step is to deploy the first "1/3" or 6 UGs  8)
