Title: Spartacus Slave Revolt army example
Post by: Herod on November 09, 2020, 08:41:47 PM
Hello,

I just picked up MeG, and I am new to Ancients gaming in general. Last year I built a slave revolt army for ADLG and have been wanting to give MeG a try.

Would someone mind posting a (decent) sample Spartacus Slave Revolt list? I think it would be helpful to help me get started.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome aboard.

It's great fun to play. I actually won the first Derventio with it.  Borrowed it from James Hamilton and had an absolute blast.

This is the army in the 2019 army builder for Maximus and it looks amazing on the table. An AdlG version will probably be about a magna version which roughly speaking takes all of them down to 4s.   The fanatics and the Spartacus effect are really fun. I  managed to break off Spartacus to join the cavalry just before they routed, turned them fanatic and won the game with the last base against Ray Duggins.  An epic game!

Make sure you post some piccies!!

Thanks very much!

Looking at that list, it does look like I will need to expand the army somewhat. I'd love to see pics of the list you describe if you have them handy.

I took some heat for the flowers when I last posted some pics, so I still have to dial those back haha. Album link is below, but I don't have a pic of the whole thing deployed thanks to the Covid situation. I was racing to get this done for a tournament, which was unfortunately cancelled.

Thanks again.

All very nice indeed.
Looks like you have plenty for a Magna scale army?

Thanks - I think so but I am not that far along yet.

Still going through the rules and will tackle the army builder next.

Yes looks like a Magna force to me which is plenty enough for lots of fun.

I'll see if I can find any photos from the games.  the army did look amazing.

Hello again,

I am trying to get my head around the conversion from ALDG and MeG. The Gladiators in ADLG, for example, are 2x bases of 40mm x 15mm, 4 figures crammed in per base (8 figures total on 40x30)

In MeG, it appears they are supposed to be based 3 figures to a 40mmx20mm base for a "loose" formation.

How should I tackle this, short of rebasing the figures? All suggestions are welcome.

Thanks again

MeG is not so constrained on the bases so much. The number of figures is cosmetic. As long as you make to clear to your opponent what they are it will be fine.

Nobody will mind one bit so don't rebase.  Just declare them a a double bases of Mortem et Gloriam figures for now.
Then as you progress you can maybe have a few spares.

Thanks for the responses. I'm a little farther along in the book now so I am understanding a bit better.
