Title: Some newb PBS questions
Post by: Francis Small on August 28, 2020, 05:53:20 AM
I'm slowly grinding through my Christmas present and reading the MeG rules (I'll get through them Dave, I promise!). Just wanted to clarify a few PBS items:

1. Secure flank terrain items can touch each other when placed. (Possible, although still must be entirely on your own side.)
2. Compulsory/Optional terrain items must be placed in the order they were picked. (Rules don't seem definitive, but seem to imply this.)
3. Boundaried fields can be chosen even if later they can't be placed. In fact, choosing a boundaried field before a town/village is chosen guarantees it won't be placed. (Since items must be placed in the order chosen, and a boundaried field can only be placed if a town/village has already been placed and providing it doesn't violate the field zoning density ordinance.)

Still looking for the cheesy loophole that allows my French Kniggets to kill everything - I'm sure it's in there!

Correct - the 2BW initial separation is only mentioned for compulsory and optional pieces and not secure flank pieces.

I don't think that this is correct.

YES SO THAT TWO FORESTS COULD TOUCH AGAINST EACH OTHER FOR A TOTAL BLOCK ONTHE CENTRE LINE - BUT IT OF COURSE REQUIRES BOTH PLAYERS TO DO SO.  NOTE ALSO THAT ANYTHING CAN TOUCH A DEEP WATER - SO BORDER ONTHE RIVER, SEA OT LAKE IT REPRESENTS.

Quote2. Compulsory/Optional terrain items must be placed in the order they were picked. (Rules don't seem definitive, but seem to imply this.)

NO IF YOU PICK TWO THERE IS NO RETRUCTION YOU CAN DO IN EITHER ORDER ONCE YOU HAVE THEM 'IN STOCK'.

Quote3. Boundaried fields can be chosen even if later they can't be placed. In fact, choosing a boundaried field before a town/village is chosen guarantees it won't be placed. THERE WERE FEW OF THESE IN THIS PERIOD - THEY WERE MORE COMMON IN WITH THE RENAISSANCE PERIOD. SO A VILLAGE HAS TO HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY LAID BEFORE YOU PLACE ONE.   SO MOST GENERALLY PICK ONE AS A COMPULSORY ITEM AND THE FIELDS THAN AS OPTIONALS.  OR RISK IT AND PICK BOTH TOGETHER BUT IF THE ENEMY GETS A 6 AND REMOVES YOUR VILLAGE YOU LOSE THE FIELD.

FIDN THE BRIE AND WE WE'LL EAT IT ... I AM SURE YOU CAN KILL EVERYTHING BY OTHER MEANS.  THEY ARE PRETTY HANDY TANKS.
