I have been reviewing the evidence for Breton armies and have come to the conclusion that the current list could best be described as fantasy!
The 2021 lists are likely to include two new lists - an Armorican and Early Breton list (435 to 911) and a Breton list (935 - 1072). The former will be similar to the Post-Roman Britain or Gallia Aquitania lists. The latter will place much less emphasis on skirmishing and will be more like an Early Medieval French list.
There isn't a lot of academic material for Breton armies of this period. If anyone has any useful material they could refer me to that would be really helpful.

Richard, does this mean that all your Britcon games using this army a few years ago are null and void?

Yes - fine by me.
Presumably this will also apply to the Breton milites in the Norman list?
Breton milties are likely to become Cavalry, Formed Loose, Average, Protected, Short Spear, Unskilled Javelin, optional Combat Shy. 0-12.
If you take the view that the Bretons were identical to Normans by 1066 then you just choose them as Norman milities.

OK -thanks Richard. So the main change for Bretons would be in losing some of the SUGs and in the TUGs being no longer Flexible and Experienced javelin? (tbh I always wondered about them...)
Now that my Breton skirmishers are painted ... >:(
