Title: PSC Pacto Armies Intended Basing
Post by: Scutarii on July 31, 2020, 11:14:13 PM
Hi,

Looking to get into MeG with the 'Early Imperial Roman starter army from PSC

https://www.theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk/product/mortem-et-gloriam-early-imperial-roman-pacto-starter-army/

I intend to base on 40x20mm (or 40x30 for cavalry). Which conveniently lines up with l'Art de la Guerre (and Warmaster Ancients)

Looking through the contents and it seems the infantry come in multiple of 7 (14 vet, 14 aux, 28 legion) while as far as I know the basing suggests 4 figures per 40x20 base for close fighting infantry like these.

I.e.: I would expect 8 figures needed per complete element.

Initially I thought you were meant to add one of the command figures to each element but then would not have the minimum number of general needed to play.

Can anyone more experienced with the game suggest how I'm meant to arrange the figures on the bases?

Thanks!

40mm frontage is "standard" for 15mm figures in a number of many different Ancients period rulesets, so you won't go far wrong with that :)

The idea with those infantry is that they are classed as "flexible", i.e. can switch between close (recommended as represented by 4 figures on a base) and loose formation (3 figures per base). So if you have a mixture of 3 and 4 figure bases, you indicate which formation they are in by which base is in the front rank.

Thus for Pacto, a unit would be two bases, 7 figures total.

Ah I see, it's doing double duty as a 'formation' aid. Cunning. Kind of like indicating skirmish rating in Polemos.

Dispatched yesterday, interested to see what ultracast looks like 'in the flesh'.

Thank you!

Exactly so and keeps it nice on the table.
If you prefer to be all 3s of 4s we have some nice markers for flexibles as well.
So no need to mass rebase anything.
