Title: Charge phase shooting
Post by: jfas on February 02, 2020, 04:13:10 PM
Hi All

Have a question about shooting in the charge phase

The shooting happens at the normal distance the charge starts at (ex 3 BW)  or at 1 BW from the target ?
I will give two examples

EX1.

CCCFFFFCCC
BBBKKKKBBB

the 4 K (dismounted knights) charge at 3 BW distance  the 4 F (foot)  do the 2 files of crossbow (one left one right of the foot) have the ability to shoot at the knights ? and if yes does this happen at 1 BW (the crossbow shooting with white dice)

EX2.

CCCCCCCCC
FFFKKKFFF

6 F (spearmen) and 3 K (foot Knights) charge 9 crossbow strait forward at 3 BW distance do the Crossbow get to pick targets and say fire 5 shots at the knights and 2 at each tug of foot or does the shooting happen at 1 bw so only shoot strait forward?

Thanks for the help

QuoteFiles can shoot at chargers if the path of charge passes within 1BW and ahead of them,

QuoteCLARRY: Shooting Distance for Shooting at Chargers
For factors, the range is considered to be 1BW - so any short ranges bonuses that apply do so (so unprotected SuGs give an upgrade to those they charge).

Should answer your first question. So yes the crossbowmen can charge and they count as doing so at 1BW for factors.

For the second I have always considered the shooting to happen at 1BW when shooting at chargers and so your target is restricted - although the above quote does not actually say that.

Thanks Nick

so i get the + for shooting at 1 BW.

Anyone have any idea on the target priority ?

Because the shooting is deemed to take place at 1BW the rules for target priority at 1BW apply.  Therefore you must target the file that covers the most frontage of the shooting file (9.6B4 p91).
