Title: Mountain/Forest secure flank in Plains, Desert or Standard
Post by: craig.w on January 08, 2019, 12:07:39 PM
Hello,

This seems to be self-evident but just checking this is the intent.

If I choose Plains or Desert and after the 5 cards the Army Counter ends up in intersection of "Secure flank -Mountains or Forest" and "Plains" or if I choose Standard and it ends in the intersection of "Secure flanks - Mountain or Forest" and "Dense", "Normal" or "Open", then there is no secure flank, because the PBS sheet says "Otherwise place compulsory-sized terrain from those on side of PBS map (must be allowed in terrain)" and Forest and Mountains can't be chosen in Plains, Desert or Standard.

Thanks,

Craig

When we were working on the 2019 rules changes - that wasn't my understanding of  the intention.
My understanding of the intention was that MOUNTAINS (actually a difficult TERRAINED SLOPE) would be available in ANY terrain.

One for Simon H to sort out.  This is quite significant!

This is huge

Trust Craig to look for a way to ensure there is less secured flanks avail for his opponents :p

I was tempted to just spring it at Cancon, Dru, because the language is pretty clear cut, but because of my generous nature I decided to seek clarification, even if it is at my expense  ;) Of course, as we are using the same army, it wouldn't affect our game.  :P

Aah in trying to solve one problem it seems I have accidentally created another ... my intent is that the Mountains and Forest still apply, woods etc. still apply for the secure flank whatever terrain you are in.

So keep playing it that way.  I will fix the PBS or terrain sheet before printing it to make it ok.  A fine spot - Craig holds the MasterSpotter Gamesmad of the year award for January (so far).

With tournaments rapidly approaching, see you in Brussels, should this be an official clarification ahead of the reprint?

Yes it is official as an error.
Have just redone the sheet before printing and sent to Simon Clarke to update the website with 2019.2.
The power of 100s of eyes over a few.

I have increassed the options for terrain now allowed as follows:

MOUNTAINS = S C D M P
FOREST = S F J M

So all can now have a difficult flank.  In Plains, Coastal or Desert it has to be Mountains which feels right (Texas, Marathon, Numidian desert).  In Forest Jungle it has to be Forest (Teutonberg etc.).
